As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Russ (on the left) and his friend Dave won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps match on August 3rd, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Russ a few questions after the match.

When was your first match supporting the Timbers?
The USL Open Cup match, five years back.

What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
Getting my picture taken with Timber Joey!

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
Ricketts or Harrington

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom?
I have had the pleasure of being entertained at various sporting events around the globe and the experience presented by the Timber's organization was first class. Dave and I came home with a belief that the Timbers front office offers a superior fan experience to that of their rivals to the north.

Congratulations again to Russ, and thank you for your support!

Portland Thorns FC fans in attendance at the final regular season game were sure to notice the tremendous tifo display put on by the Rose City Riveters supporters group. Hanging high over the north end of the stadium, a beautiful, handcrafted image paid tribute to the Thorns.

Although every fan at JELD-WEN Field appreciated the display, few likely understood the time and effort put in to making it possible. Over 60 people combined for a total of 375 work hours to imagine, create, complete, and execute the tifo display.

The process began in July when Rose City Riveters members came up with and finalized the design. With space, cloth, paint, and rigging provided by the 107ist, the Rose City Riveters began outlining the image. After hours of painting and touch ups the final product was ready to go in time for the August 4th match. Additionally, volunteers prepared accompanying two-stick banners, streamers, and instructions for the execution of the display.

Looking for something to during a weekend when the Portland Timbers don’t have a match? Look no further than the Art Takeover Pennant Show at Coava Coffee (1300 SE Grand Ave.) in SE Portland.

Art Takeover is a design show organized by Factory North and the Timbers Army. It features the work of 30 local designers and artists who create art that fits one common theme. This year, the artists have created felt pennants with the theme of their favorite Timbers Army song.

From 7AM-6PM at Coava Coffee, 30 prints of each design will be available for purchase. Not only are the pennants a fantastic blend of art and Timbers Army culture, but they will go a long way in helping fundraise for Operation Pitch Invasion’s current project: Bless Field, a 9,000 square foot all-season soccer field designed to promote positive youth and community development.

UPDATE: Widmer Brothers is also getting into the act by auctioning off 50 limited-edition hand-numbered and signed bottles of Green & Gold Kolsch with custom labels. Lots of one-of-a-kind items to be had for sure!

Following the Art Takeover there will be an after party at the event space between Boke and Hair of the Dog Brewing on SE Water Ave from 7-10 PM.

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Ron and Elliot won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Norwich City FC exhibition match on July 24, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Ron a few questions after the match.

What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
I was living in Philomath at the time. It was the year prior to the Timbers joining MLS. The game was played at the University of Portland. I had purchased season tickets that year in order to be one of the first to select my seats for the inaugural season in MLS. The enthusiasm of the Timbers Army was the thing that impressed me most. The Timbers also impressed me with their level of play.

What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
The goal by Valencia, of course.  It was great seeing the young players doing their thing against a Premier League team. Even though Norwich City is between seasons, this was an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of play in our league. Well done!

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
It's a difficult call as there was good play all around, but let's give it to Valencia and hope that it provides him motivation to score many more for us.

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom?
My Dad, who played semi-pro hockey and competitive soccer in Canada when he was young, tried to get me interested in soccer when I was a boy. My response having never seen a game was 'why would anyone want to play a game where you can't use your hands'.  My first introduction was watching the New York Cosmos and Pelé play an exhibition game in Hawaii. I really got hooked when my daughter started playing competitive soccer. I was an avid fan and got more fully involved by joining the youth soccer league board. Elliot is one of my two grandsons. My big thing now is my enjoyment in bringing him and his brother Miles to the Timbers games.

Congratulations again to Ron and Elliot, and thank you for your wonderful support!

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Liz and Caitlin won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. LA Galaxy match on July 13th, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Liz a few questions after the match:

When was your first match supporting the Timbers?

When I moved out to Portland in 1998, Philadelphia did not yet have a professional soccer team, so I was never a big fan of soccer. My wife, Caitlin, and I went to our first Timbers game when they were a USL team because some of our friends, who were season ticket holders, convinced us that it would be fun. We sat with the Army, of course. The energy I felt in that stadium was like none I had felt before at a live sporting event. I was hooked! When it came time to purchase season tickets for the Timbers inaugural season, the answer was simple.

What was your favorite moment of this match?

The ridiculously amazing goal by Jean-Baptiste in the 94th minute and watching the Timbers Army celebration from our midfield seats.

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?

Near tie between Ricketts and Jean-Baptiste, but I think I'm going to give it to Ricketts. He was a beast on Saturday night! If not for a couple of his saves (namely Juninho's free kick at the 37 minute mark), our 94th minute goal wouldn't have mattered.

What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus Philadelphia Union?

Timbers win, 1-0. Ricketts with a clean sheet and Piquionne with the game-winning goal. You heard me!

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any Favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia?

Between my wife and me, we have 11 scarves, but I still wear the same one just about every match - No Pity with red fringe. Also, when Dan Zusman asked me to confirm the name that should go on the Axe Society wall, I forgot to make sure my wife's name was on it too - something she reminds me of to this day. Perhaps winning this Member of the Match is the first step in making it up to her!

We clearly had the best match of the season for our Axe experience. We were already excited to have this experience for the LA Galaxy match, but the game couldn't have been any more exciting. The staff took wonderful care of us and everyone was so nice. We're looking forward to returning to our friends in Section 105, but this is a match experience that we'll never forget!

Congratulations again to Liz and Caitlin and thank you for your fantastic support!

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Brandon won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Colorado Rapids match on June 23rd, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Brandon a few questions after the match:

When was your first match supporting the Timbers?

Having only been an Oregon resident for five years I don't have extensive history with the club, but coming from a state with no pro-sports teams I jumped on my first chance to attend a USL-era match in 2009 and became infatuated with the atmosphere. Looking on at the Army from 216 I decided that I wanted to be a part of that as soon as possible.

What was your favorite moment of this match?

Favorite moment of the match should be any one of the three beautiful goals by any standard, but I'd like to go a little oddball and claim Jewsbury's clear in front of what was a very open net as my favorite moment. Had the Rapids slotted that goal away and given themselves a pick me up they could've easily turned the match in their favor.

What is your prediction for the next MLS match – Timbers versus Columbus Crew?

Hopefully the Timbers high from today's out-and-out romping of the Rapids will keep them going through Wednesday’s USOC match and on to the match at the Crew Stadium. The Crew are hungry to get back into the top 5 for the East, so I have no doubt they'll give our boys some trouble as they fight for three points. With our back line stronger than ever and our attack only getting better I feel that the game will be in our favor and we'll return home with another road win.

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any Favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia?

I love my family in 105, they make every match day an experience regardless of the outcome, they make cheering for our boys way more fun than it already is.

My favorite piece of memorabilia would have to be my highly coveted 1 of 300 fan made Tetris scarf, it has and will probably always be my go to game day scarf whether at home or away. If I had to choose a team made favorite it would probably be my custom red, white, green and keeper kits with my favorite number printed on each, 83.

The Axe experience was absolutely enthralling, other than feeling extremely ridiculous waving and smiling for over 60 seconds I wouldn't change a thing. My girlfriend and I had a complete blast and enjoyed every minute of the day due to the very welcoming and extremely helpful staff.

Our thanks to Brandon and Brynn for being our guests and for their fantastic support!

Halfway through the Hexagonal, the United States men’s national team is in control of the table, taking 10 points from five games. Tonight, The Yanks face Honduras at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah. This matchup comes on the heels of the USA’s 2-0 win over Panama at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington.

The USMNT win over Panama was not only an exciting, well-played match by the Stars and Stripes; it was a spectacular display by the American Outlaws and Pacific Northwest soccer fans. United States coach Jürgen Klinsmann and his players admired the crowd, and spoke to the level of excellence demonstrated by Northwest fans.

Check out KICKTV’s video recap of the game, and tune in at 6 p.m. PT tonight on ESPN to see the United States vs. Honduras.

Don't forget to get tickets to this summer's Gold Cup tournament at JELD-WEN Field when the USMNT take on Belize on July 9.

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Lori and Sean won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas match on June 15th, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Lori a few questions after the match:

What was your first memory of supporting the Timbers?
We saw the first Timbers game at the University of Portland field (before JELD-WEN was ready).  During that match, we kept thinking how totally awesome the Timbers Army was, and we were struck by the speed and agility of number 11.  Everybody around us started pulling out their roster sheets trying to figure out who 11 was, and we all tried to say his name resulting in various butchered pronunciations of Alhassan's name all around us.  He still is amazing to watch, but seeing him for the first time and that close up was definitely something special. A close second for favorite memories was the Timbers' shut out of the LA Galaxy that year.

What was your favorite moment of this match?
The easy answer would be Nagbe's goal, but the most exciting moment was actually when the Timber's had two back-to-back shots on goal that were blocked.  Even though it did not result in a goal, it was really fun to watch.

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
That is really difficult!  Ricketts got another clean sheet and had some awesome saves.  Nagbe, again, placed the ball in the net with perfect precision.  Chara disrupted and charged like the champion and solid all-around player he is.  Will Johnson never stopped in spite of constant muggings mid-field.  Alhassan tirelessly advanced the ball and avoided defenders.  So, man-of-the match is Porter.  Somehow he manages to try new combinations that are the perfect match-ups against for each team the Timbers play.  He is a genius.

What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus LA Galaxy?
The Timbers will control the ball (60% + possession) and wear down the Galaxy, resulting in a win for the Timbers.  Goal differential of 2.

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom?
We are on the big picture of original season ticket holders out of sheer luck.  We went to the downtown Timbers store on a rainy day before the first season started just because we wanted to buy Timbers jerseys.  It turns out, they were doing the pictures with the axes and chainsaw and such for that original mural.  It is my favorite family pic and probably always will be.  Yeah, that was almost as lucky as being fans of the match.  It was great to sit in the fancy seats and get fed a bunch.  However, we will happily return to section 209 to stand, drink, cheer, and cuss through the whole match, like the true fans we are. RCTID!

There’s no doubt about your true fandom, Lori! Thank you for your wonderful support!
