Olum scores Team of the Week honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Lawrence Olum was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 16, it was announced today. Over the weekend, Olum scored the game-tying goal against the Minnesota Thunder to help the Timbers earn a draw on the road.
Olum headed in his third goal of the season on Saturday in a 1-1 draw against the Thunder in Minnesota. Entering the match as a substitute in the second half, Olum, 23, connected on a corner kick by midfielder Luke Kreamalmeyer in the 63rd minute. All three of Olum’s goals this season have either been the game-winner or helped tie a match.
A rookie from Missouri Baptist University, Olum led the St. Louis Lions of the Premier Development League (PDL) in scoring last season with nine goals. He was a three-time All-America honorable mention at MBU.
Olum becomes the 12th different Timbers player to be selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week this season.
The Timbers play host to Minnesota on Thursday at PGE Park before facing the Vancouver Whitecaps PGE Park on Saturday. Kickoff for both matches is 7 p.m. On Saturday, the first 1,000 kids receive a mini Nike soccer ball courtesy of Tursi’s Soccer Store on Nike Night at PGE Park.
