"Timber Jim Farewell" highlights 2008 promotions

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today unveiled the club’s 2008 promotional schedule at PGE Park. The schedule begins April 17 when the Timbers play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders and features seven premium giveaway items throughout the season.
 
The 2008 promotional schedule kicks off with Timber Jim Retirement Night on Opening Night presented by PGE on April 17. Announcing his retirement from the organization in January, the Timbers will pay tribute to long-time team icon, Jim Serrill – better known as “Timber Jim” - with an array of festivities, and the first 1,000 fans receive Timber Jim Farewell T-shirts courtesy of Shindaiwa.  
 
This season’s schedule is highlighted by exciting new giveaways, including a “Fan-Vote” Player Bobblehead presented by Toyota. Inviting fans to vote through the team’s website, www.portlandtimbers.com, fans will choose the next edition in the Timbers’ bobblehead series. The new collectible will be distributed to the first 1,000 fans on Aug. 16 as the Timbers face the Montreal Impact at PGE Park.
 
The Timbers 2008 promotional schedule also includes returning fan-favorites in Bark-in-the-Park on May 26, Nike Night on Aug. 9 and Latino Night on July 10 as the Timbers host Puerto Rico.
 
Once again, the Timbers are teaming up with fans to support local community outreach efforts on special nights during the 2008 season. On June 12, the Timbers will hold their third-annual Teddy Bear Toss at PGE Park, inviting fans to donate stuffed animals to kids at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital by tossing them onto the field following the team’s first goal of the match. On the final home match of the 2008 regular-season, the Timbers will conduct a silent auction of the team’s new “Rose City” red uniforms on Jersey-Off-Our-Back Night on Sept. 11, with proceeds benefitting the new Portland Beavers & Portland Timbers Community Fund.
 
In addition to the giveaways, the Timbers’ promotional schedule also includes exclusive day-of-the-week promotions at PGE Park with Miller Lite Thursdays presented by Jammin 95.5, featuring discounted beverages and fun theme nights, and Fred Meyer Super Giveaway Saturdays, highlighted by premium giveaways and a festive atmosphere at PGE Park.
