Knowles earns Week 5 Team of the Week honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers defender Cameron Knowles was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 5. Knowles helped the Timbers record their third shutout of the season last weekend.
The Timbers played the Cleveland City Stars to a 0-0 draw on May 9, recording the team’s third consecutive shutout. Knowles and the Timbers’ backline held the City Stars to just four shots throughout the match, allowing goalkeeper Steve Cronin to earn a clean sheet without making a save. Portland has not allowed a goal since April 25 – a span of 297 minutes.
Knowles, 26, was a three-time USL First Division Team of the Week selection in 2008; this is his first selection this season.
Portland faces the Rochester Rhinos on Thursday at PGE Park in a match televised live on Fox Soccer Channel; kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Tickets start at $11 and are through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
