Timbers U-23s' Warner invited to 2010 MLS Combine
PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer announced Thursday the league’s initial list of 62 college seniors who have been invited to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine, on the list is Portland Timbers U-23s forward Collen Warner.
Warner, a senior at the University of Portland, was selected by a panel of NCAA Division I and MLS coaches, who nominated and voted on the participants for the annual combine in January.
A member of the Timbers U-23s inaugural team in 2009, Warner played in six matches, logging 443 minutes and a pair of goals during the Premier Development League (PDL) season. Both of his goals were game-winning strikes, resulting in victories over the Tacoma Tide and Vancouver Whitecaps Residency.
Warner, a native of Denver, Colo., wrapped up a standout collegiate career at UP this season with his third consecutive All-West Coast Conference first-team selection. As a senior, he played in 22 games and led the Pilots and WCC in scoring with nine goals and seven assists. Led by Warner, one of two team captains, UP reached the third round of the 2009 NCAA tournament before falling to No. 2 Virginia in the Sweet 16.
The annual MLS player showcase will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 8-12, 2010. The coaching and management staffs of all 16 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent in advance of the league’s SuperDraft held Jan. 14 in Philadelphia.
