A New Reality: Morgan & Sinclair add up to enticing attack
Perhaps one of the most enticing and exciting elements of the new National Women’s Soccer League is the ability to create new playing combinations of some of the world’s best players.
It is no secret that the United States and Canada present two of the most formidable national women’s teams in the world. Their London 2012 Olympic semifinal against each other will go down as a classic of international soccer. Christine Sinclair lifted Canada on her back with an unbelievable hat trick only to have Alex Morgan put the Americans through to the gold medal match with a 120+3' extratime, stoppage time game-winning header. It was one of the defining moments of the Summer Olympics.
But, what if Morgan could be paired up top with Sinclair on the same starting XI?
For the Thorns and the NWSL, that hypothetical has became reality and for Portland fans, the opportunity to dream just got a whole lot more exciting.
Take a look at some numbers:
|Alex Morgan||Christine Sinclair|
|NCAA National Championships||0||2 (Univ. of Portland, 2002, 2005)|
|M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Wins||0||2|
|Olympic Medals||1 (Gold)||1 (Bronze)|
No matter what math you use, Portland is in for a wild attack.
