Thorns FC have no shortage of larger-than-life national team names with the likes of Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair, Karina LeBlanc, Rachel Buehler, and Tobin Heath joining the team this year. However, the team also has a collection of impressive national team players whose names might ring a bell, but aren’t as well known.

Among them is standout midfielder Becky Edwards, who is no stranger to the international ranks. After beginning her National Team career at the U-17 level in 2005, the 24-year-old has captained U-20 and U-23 Women’s National Teams for the United States. Edwards has also played internationally for Hammarby IF and Kristianstads DFF in Sweden.

After college, Edwards was selected as the 12th overall pick in the 2010 WPS Draft by FC Gold Pride. Edwards made 25 appearances, helping lead the team to the WPS Championship. While with FC Gold Pride, Edwards played along current Thorns FC teammates Sinclair and Buehler.

The following year, Edwards teamed up with Sinclair again though this time with the Western New York Flash, and the two won a second consecutive WPS Championship. In New York, the two were joined by another current Thorns FC teammate, Alex Morgan.

On January 31, 2013, Becky Edwards signed with Portland Thorns FC as a free agent, becoming one of Portland’s first Discovery Players. We wanted to know more about Becky and what she’s like off the pitch. We recently caught up with her after training to ask her about her favorite tunes, what she’s watching on TV, and a few other things we might not know about one of Portland’s newest residents.
