adidas Timbers Alliance club's Lauren Rood named to U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team
The roster for the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team for the upcoming 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship features one local player, goalkeeper Lauren Rood from Camas, Washington.
Rood was announced as part of the squad by U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team head coach B.J. Snow on Sept. 25. The 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship will take place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from Oct. 30-Nov. 9. The top two teams from the eight-team tournament will qualify for the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
The 15-year-old keeper plays her club soccer for the Washington Timbers, a member of the adidas Timbers Alliance. The alliance is a strategic partnership with elite local youth clubs in the Portland Timbers’ and Thorns FC development territory, designed to build unique working relationships and development opportunities to help channel the top youth players towards the Timbers’ and Thorns' development programs. As part of the alliance, the Timbers/Thorns share coaching resources and curriculum with alliance clubs in the development of both boys and girls youth players.
Rood previously attended the U-15 national camp in May, where she got her first glimpse of what it takes to play with the national team.
Prior to departing for Jamaica, Rood and the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team will conduct one final training camp in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., from Oct. 13-19. Click here for the formal announcement from U.S. Soccer.
