#PORvSKC on #RCTID: A hard-fought night
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers had the better of the chances and possession, but tonight it wasn't to be. Portland fell 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City at Providence Park, and it was a long throw-in that led to the game's lone goal by Sporting KC's Lawrence Olum in the first half. Here is a look back on the day through posts, pictures and videos on social media for #PORvSKC.
The Timbers and Sporting KC squared off for a second time in four days as the two clubs met earlier this week in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. One of the more anticipated home matches of the season, some fans waited out the rain to get their spot in line for a seat.
On a day of rest for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the match against Sporting KC helped fill a void for those craving more of the beautiful game with World Cup fever.

With supporters in full voice, the action was intense from the start. The Timbers had a beautiful build up lead to what many in the park thought was the go-ahead goal. No dice - offside call.
That offside call ruined my "Ronaldo-like cross from Nagbe" tweet. #RCTID

As the sun set at Providence Park, it created a beautiful scene; arguably one of the best settings in North American sports.

As we have seen time and time again, never count these Timbers out of a match; not until the final whistle blows. The Timbers Army chanted and Timber Joey gave a "say hello to my little friend" and a rally cry to the folks on the other end of the park trying to help will the club to a result.
But Sporting KC held on through all that the Timbers could throw at them to snag a 1-0 win on the road. The match against Sporting KC marked the midway point in the 2014 regular season - 17 games in, 17 games to go.
On a lighter note, #HarringtonPhotoBombs invaded Providence Park with the start of the new contest from CenturyLink.
