Portland begins three-game home stand on Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. — Following four consecutive road games, the Portland Timbers U-23s return to the Rose City to play host to Victoria Highlanders FC on Saturday, June 21, at Alder Creek Middle School in Milwaukie, Ore.; kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).

The Timbers U-23s (2-4-3, 9pts) face off against Victoria for the final time this season on Saturday. Portland has a record of 6-3-3 all-time against Victoria, including a record of 2-2-1 at home. In the last meeting, Highlanders FC registered a 3-1 win in Victoria, B.C., on June 7 at Royal Athletic Park. Victoria tallied the first three goals of the match before midfielder Omar Holness scored from the penalty spot for Portland in the 65th minute.

Portland secured a 3-0 win over Sounders FC U23 in its last match on Sunday at Tumwater High School in Tumwater, Wash, scoring three second-half goals. Forward Kharlton Belmar tallied a brace with goals in the 58th and 85th minutes. Defender Will Seymore scored his first goal of the season with a header in the 71st minute while defender Matt Rose registered two assists in the match.

Victoria (4-2-2, 14pts) is coming off a 4-1 win against Puget Sound Gunners FC on Saturday. Highlanders FC opened the scoring after 16 minutes, but Gunners FC equalized in the 31st minute. In the second half, Highlanders FC scored three unanswered goals to secure all three points.

Following Saturday’s match, the Timbers U-23s square off against Kitsap Pumas on Saturday, June 28, at Doc Harris High School in Camas, Wash.; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific). Portland plays host to Lane United on Tuesday, July 1, at Willamette University, in Salem, Ore.; kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (Pacific).

Belmar named to PDL Team of the Week
Timbers U-23s midfielder forward Kharlton Belmar was named to the PDL Team of the Week for Week 7 of the regular season. Belmar tallied three goals in two games for Portland, scoring a goal in a 2-2 draw against Washington Crossfire on June 12 and tallying a brace against Sounders FC U23 on Sunday.
