Following three seasons with the Portland Timbers U-23s and a standout collegiate career at the University of Washington, Richards signed as the club’s first Homegrown Player on Jan. 4, 2012. Richards registered 26 goals and 12 assists in 37 games with the Timbers U-23s, becoming the team’s all-time leading scorer. He became the third player from the Timbers U-23s, who compete in United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League, to sign with the Timbers’ first team.

2013: MIssed the 2013 season due to an ACL injury; underwent successful surgery to repair his ACL on Feb. 4, 2013.

2012: Appeared in six games in his rookie MLS season, starting two, while logging 201 minutes played ... Named the club’s 2012 Young Player of the Year ... Made his MLS debut on July 14, playing 45 minutes as a halftime sub against the LA Galaxy ... Handed his first MLS start against Chivas USA on July 28, recording four shots (one on goal) in 74 minutes of action, a performance that earned him MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week honorable mention for Week 21...
