Timbers to host 'Toga Party Thursday' at PGE Park

PORTLAND, Ore.
- An Olympic-like event is coming to PGE Park this Thursday when the Portland Timbers play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders in an international A-League soccer showdown. The Timbers have chosen to honor the event by throwing “Toga Party Thursday” in celebration of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The last chance to enjoy a Thursday event at PGE Park this season, fans are invited to take part in the occasion, which will include opening ceremonies, halftime competitions and togas galore.

Although ancient Greeks and Romans never actually wore togas to parties (or soccer games), the modern toga party was widely popularized by the 1978 classic film “Animal House” and has become a fixture on the global party circuit since then.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the match will begin at 7 p.m. For instructions on how to make a toga, go to http://www.ron-turner.com/howtomakeatoga.html.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at (503) 224-4400 or in person at the PGE Park box office.
