Timbers loan Alvarez, Antoniuk to MISL teams

PORTLAND, Ore.
- The Portland Timbers have loaned forward Byron Alvarez to the Chicago Storm and forward Dan Antoniuk to the San Diego Sockers of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), it has been announced.

Alvarez, an A-League first-team selection in 2004 whose 36 points (16g, 4a) led the team and ranked second in the league, joins the Storm for their inaugural MISL campaign. In two seasons with the Timbers, Alvarez, who turns 26 on Thursday, has compiled 61 points on 28 goals and five assists in 46 games, pacing the team in points each of his two campaigns.

The expansion Storm are set to open their season by playing host to the Milwaukee Wave on Oct. 23.

Antoniuk, 23, returned to the Sockers, who are 1-1 through their first two games, for a second season after joining them midway through the 2003-04 indoor season from Milwaukee.

The 6-3 forward signed with the Timbers in 2003 and has recorded 13 points on four goals and five assists in 37 games played over his two seasons in Portland. In 2004, Antoniuk tallied three goals and four assists with the Timbers.

Antoniuk garnered an assist in San Diego’s 5-3 win over the two-time defending-champion Baltimore Blast to open the regular season.
