Timbers sign forward Antoniuk

PORTLAND, Ore.
- The Portland Timbers have signed forward Dan Antoniuk to a one-year contract, it was announced today by the club.

Antoniuk, 24, joins the Timbers on loan from his hometown Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), where he recently finished the season, collecting three goals and four assists with the indoor side.

“Dan has been very effective off the bench for us over the past two seasons,” Timbers general manager Jim Taylor said. “Being the lone target-type of striker on the team, this is a nice opportunity for him to contribute and earn some more playing time.”

Eligible to begin his third campaign with the Timbers this Saturday at Minnesota, Antoniuk spent the 2003-04 seasons in Portland, where he tallied 13 points (4g, 5a) over 947 minutes on the pitch.

Antoniuk will wear No. 9 with the Timbers.

TIMBERS AT MINNESOTA - SATURDAY, MAY 7

The Timbers travel to the Metrodome in Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Thunder for the second time in eight days on Saturday. Kickoff is 5:05 p.m. (Pacific). The Timbers, who haven’t lost to the Thunder since 2003, are riding a five-game unbeaten streak against Minnesota. The Thunder, who play their lone game of the season at the Metrodome Saturday, will be without suspended forward Melvin Tarley.
