Weekly pro honors announced - Week 8

Edozien and Severs Players of the WeekTAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division and USL Second Division Teams of the Week for the eighth week of the season, honoring Carolina’s Connally Edozien and Harrisburg’s Chad Severs as the Players of the Week, respectively. There was an ample supply of pre-match drama for the inaugural meeting of the RailHawks and Rhinos, who share a lot of history. That history was front and center as the two clubs thrilled the crowd with dueling goals in a 2-2 first half that held for the final score.  Former Rhino striker Connally Edozien had just four goals while seeing action on a limited basis in Rochester the year before and came into the match looking to add to his single tally on the year for Carolina. He doubled his account 11 minutes in when he got his head on a Kupono Low free kick to give the RailHawks the lead. Rochester tied the game back up in the 37th minute only to see Edozien strike once again a minute later when he blasted a shot into the back of the net when he picked up a chested ball from teammate Anthony Maher 30 yards out and charged into the box before connecting from 12 yards.  In his return to Harrisburg on loan from the USL-1 Rochester Rhinos, the former City Islander displayed the reason why he was given a shot at the USL top flight, leading his side from a 1-0 halftime deficit past the visiting Bermuda Hogges 4-2. Perhaps it took him a half to re-acclimate to the team, but two minutes into the second stanza Severs found defender Ryan Pierce with a back heel to equalize. Four minutes later he ran down a long Matt Tanzini ball, worked around goalkeeper Timothy Figureido, and slammed the ball into the vacated net for a 2-1 Harrisburg lead. Leading 3-2 in the 78th minute, he provided an insurance goal when he picked up the ball from Mo Oduor as he was bursting down the left flank. Severs moved inside the penalty area and softly chipped a shot over a stretching Figureido. Severs, the USL-2 Rookie of the Year in 2005, has three goals on the year having provided a 1-0 winner in Bermuda in the second game of the season on a previous loan spell.
