Timbers face Victory twice at PGE Park this weekend

PORTLAND, Ore.  – The Portland Timbers play host to the expansion California Victory on Friday and Sunday at PGE Park. With two games this weekend, the Timbers and Victory wrap up their five-game season series.
The match on Friday will be broadcast live on www.portlandtimbers.com and Fox Soccer Channel. The first 2,000 fans on Friday will receive a Timber Jim bobblehead presented by Toyota; kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
Sunday’s match is the annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed teddy bear or animal to toss on the field after the Timbers score their first goal of the match. The match begins 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on www.portlandtimbers.com.
The Timbers (7-2-3, 24pts) have won three straight and have not allowed a goal since June 21 against the Montreal Impact – a span of 274 minutes. Portland’s defense has allowed the fewest goals (7) in the USL First Division and has helped the Timbers post a 4-0-3 record at PGE Park this season.
California (2-8-5, 11pts) has lost three in a row including their third round U.S. Open Cup match to Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, 3-1, on Tuesday. Including the U.S. Open Cup match this week, the Victory has been outscored 9-2 in their last three matches.
Portland leads the season series between the two clubs 3-0-0. In their last meeting on July 7, midfielder Andrew Gregor tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Timbers to a 3-0 win at Kezar Stadium. The Timbers have played the Victory in two of their last three matches.
Kickoff for the Timbers match on Aug. 26 in Puerto Rico against the Islanders has changed and will now be at 3 p.m. (Pacific).
