Wicks selected to Team of the Week

PORTLAND
, Ore.

The United Soccer Leagues announced that Portland Timbers goalkeeper
Josh Wicks
was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 21. Wicks recorded a season-high 10 saves in the Timbers’ regular-season finale over the weekend.
The Timbers concluded the regular season with a 0-0 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Swangard Stadium on Sept. 9. Wicks, who played the first two years of his career with Vancouver, denied two one-on-one shot opportunities by the Whitecaps to help record his league-leading 14th shutout of the season.
Wicks, 23, has been named to the Team of the Week in each of the last two weeks and was selected as the USL First Division Player of the Week in Week 11. Portland has a player selected to the Team of the Week 14 times this season, including three who were chosen as the Player of the Week.
Portland faces the Whitecaps in the first round of the 2007 USL First Division playoffs. The Timbers will begin the two-game, total-goals series in Vancouver on Friday at Swangard Stadium at 7 p.m. Portland will host the final game of the series on Sunday at PGE Park at 5 p.m. presented by Spirit Mountain Casino.
