Timbers to host Atlanta in semifinals Sunday

PORTLAND

The Portland Timbers will host the Atlanta Silverbacks in their home semifinal playoff match on Sunday at PGE Park at 5 p.m. presented by OHSU. The two-game, total-goals semifinal series against the Silverbacks begins on Friday in Atlanta.  
For the second consecutive week, Sunday’s playoff match at PGE Park will be featured live on Fox Soccer Channel. Friday’s match at Re/Max Greater Atlanta Stadium is scheduled for 4:55 p.m. (Pacific). Both matches of the Timbers’ semifinals series will be broadcast live on

Portland advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2001 season with a 3-1 aggregate-series win over the defending-champion Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round. Atlanta (12-9-7, 43pts) advanced to the semifinals after defeating the Rochester Raging Rhinos on an aggregate score of 3-2 in the first round. Its win in the first round marked the first time in team history Atlanta had won a playoff series or had advanced past the first round. The Silverbacks finished the 2007 regular season in fourth place in the USL First Division.
