PORTLAND, Ore. –
The Portland Timbers announced today the team will conduct its annual two-day, invitation-only tryout Jan. 19-20. Players interested in applying for a trial spot must submit a detailed resume to the Timbers by Jan. 14.
“This tryout provides players who are serious about playing at this level the opportunity to be seen, which they may not have had otherwise,” said
Gavin Wilkinson
, general manager and head coach of the Timbers. “I expect a high level of competition at this year’s tryout due to the Timbers’ success in 2007, and as evidenced in past trials, we’ve picked up some quality players.”
The tryout camp is open to players 18 years of age and older. Interested players must submit a resume to
Brad Nicholson
, Timbers director of soccer operations, at bnicholson@pgepark.com. Resumes must include playing history, preferred position(s), vital statistics, coach references and may also include awards and accolades.
All participants at the two-day trial will be evaluated by the Timbers coaching staff.
Recent Timbers players signed from the annual trial include midfielders
Troy Ready
(2006) and
Lawrence Olum
(2007), forward
Bryan Jordan
