USL Week 18 Pro honors announced

Elcock named Player of the Week

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division Team of the Week honors Tuesday for Week 18 of the season, honoring Puerto Rico’s Edson Elcock as the Player of the Week.

The Islanders, who came into Starfire Sports Complex Friday tied with Vancouver for the lead in the United Soccer Leagues First Division, went out in sole possession of the top spot after blowing out the Sounders, 3-0.

After an opening goal from Noah Delgado in the first half, Edson Elcock doubled the lead with his first of the year to make it 2-0 in the 59th. The Sounders gave the ball away in their own end, with Kendall Jagdeosingh gaining control for Puerto Rico. Jagdeosingh got it to Elcock, who drilled it from the top right corner of the box into the back left corner.

Just six minutes later, Elcock put the game out of reach for the Sounders to come back. Playing again near the top right corner of the box, he juked his way around Sounders defender Zach Scott, getting wide open for a shot that sailed into the upper right corner in the 65th.

Elcock, who has seen limited action with 276 minutes over the course of eight games, joined the Islanders from the Kansas City Wizards, where he played for the reserve team. Prior to that, he was a member of the PDL Virginia Beach Submariners in 2006, registering five goals and three assists in 10 games.
