Timbers visit MLS' San Jose for preseason match

PORTLAND

– The Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer announced today that the clubs will square off in a preseason exhibition match March 14 at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Timbers face the Earthquakes in their first preseason match of the season as they prepare for the upcoming USL First Division campaign, which starts April 25 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
“With the addition of several new players to our team, it is important to face a quality opponent like San Jose early in preseason to start the development and continuity of our squad,” said

, who led the team in scoring in 2008. The Earthquakes begin their regular-season schedule March 21 against New England.
The Timbers have played the Earthquakes four times since 2001, posting an all-time record of 1-3-0 against the MLS club. San Jose captured a 2-1 victory over the Timbers in a preseason contest last season at the University of Portland.
