Suzuki lifts Timbers to preseason win over OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore.

sealed a 1-0 victory for the Portland Timbers over the Oregon State University Beavers in a preseason scrimmage Wednesday on the OSU campus.
Suzuki, who entered the match as a sub early in the second half, finished a pass from forward
Mandjou Keita
around the 75th minute to cap a steady performance by the Timbers. Portland maintained possession for a majority of the match which led to a dozen shots and several more chances throughout the night.
The Timbers’ defense held Oregon State to a single shot on target, allowing goalkeeper

Visser
to pick up the team’s third shutout in five preseason games.
Having played his collegiate career at OSU, Timbers rookie midfielder
Josh Cameron
returned to familiar territory Wednesday to face his former teammates. Cameron played in 73 games for the Beavers from 2005-08 and led the team in assists in each of his last two seasons on campus. He signed with the Timbers in February.
The Timbers finish their fifth week of preseason training camp with training sessions Thursday through Saturday at PGE Park. The team will play their next preseason scrimmage early next week as they prepare for the start of the USL First Division season on April 25.

Visser made his second preseason start Wednesday and picked up his first clean sheet as a member of the Timbers … Wednesday marked the team’s first preseason victory … With Suzuki’s tally in the second half, the Timbers have scored a goal in each of their last two contests.
