Hayes named USL First Division Player of the Week

PORTLAND
, Ore.
– United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers defender
David Hayes
was selected as the USL First Division Player of the Week for Week 15, following the club’s record-setting weekend against the Miami FC Blues.

Additionally, midfielders
Tony McManus
and
Keith Savage
were also named to the USL First Division Team of the Week.
Over the weekend, the Timbers recorded a draw and a win during a two-game road trip against Miami to set a new USL First Division record for the longest, single-season unbeaten streak at 16 matches.
Hayes, 33, scored the equalizer in the 78th minute of the match against the Blues on July 17, to help the Timbers earn a 1-1 draw and extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games. The match last Friday also marked the veteran defender’s 250th career USL First Division match. Hayes has played in all 17 matches for the Timbers this season, recording two goals and three assists.
McManus, 28, logged 180 minutes over the weekend against the Blues and contributed in the Timbers’ defensive effort that conceded just one goal between the two road games. McManus, who returned from injury earlier this month, has recorded a goal and an assist over his last four games; it’s his second USL First Division Team of the Week selection this season.
Savage, 23, earned his first USL First Division Team of the Week selection this season. A native of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Savage scored his second goal of the season on Sunday to aid in the Timbers’ 3-0 win over the Blues, which stretched the team’s unbeaten streak to a record-setting 16 games.
The Timbers play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders Thursday at PGE Park in a matchup for first place in the USL First Division; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Portland then faces the English Premier League’s Burnley FC on Saturday at PGE Park in an international exhibition. Tickets for both matches are available at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
