Keita named USL First Division Player of the Week

– United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers forward
Mandjou Keita
was named the USL First Division Player of the Week for Week 18. He led the Timbers with a goal and two assists in a pair of wins last week at PGE Park.
Additionally, Timbers midfielder
Alex Nimo
and defender
Cameron Knowles
were selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 18.
Keita, 29, earned his third USL First Division Player of the Week selection this season with a one-goal, two-assist performance in a 3-1 win against the Charleston Battery over the weekend. He leads the league in scoring with 20 points from eight goals and four assists, and ranks among USL First Division leaders in goals scored.
Nimo, 19, recorded his first goal and assist as a member of the Timbers in the match against the Battery. A native of Portland, Nimo has played in 15 games for the Timbers this season while on loan from Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake. It is his first USL First Division Team of the Week selection.
Knowles, 26, aided in the Timbers’ 10th shutout of the season on Aug. 6, in a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps at PGE Park. Week 18 marks his third Team of the Week selection this season, previously earning honors in Weeks 5 and 9. Knowles has played 1,710 minutes in 19 matches during the 2009 campaign.
