Josten named USL First Division Player of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. – United Soccer Leagues today announced that Portland Timbers forward George Josten was selected as the USL First Division Player of the Week for Week 24, following his two-goal performance against the Cleveland City Stars on Sept. 17.

Josten, 23, tallied both goals in the Timbers’ 2-1 win over Cleveland in the team’s regular-season finale at PGE Park. It is his first USL First Division Player of the Week honor; he has been named to the Team of the Week four times in 2009.

A native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Josten finished the regular season with five goals and four assists in 25 matches. He ranked among team leaders in both goals and assists in his first campaign in Portland.

In 2009, the Timbers have had five Player of the Week selections, and 14 different players selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week.

The 2009 Commissioner’s Cup-champion Timbers earned a first-round bye in the USL First Division playoffs, and will enter in the semifinal round. Portland will host the second match of the two-game, aggregate goal semifinal series on Sunday, Oct. 4, at PGE Park at 4 p.m., presented by Spirit Mountain Casino.

Single-game playoff tickets, starting at $14 in advance, are available for purchase at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
