Marcelin heads out to join Haitian National Team

PORTLAND, Ore. –
On Sunday, Timbers midfielder
James Marcelin
left the cool spring weather of the Northwest and joined the other members of the Haiti National Team as they prepare for an international friendly against the Argentina National Team.
Marcelin met up with his Haiti teammates in Miami, Fla. From there, they departed for Argentina, where they will face the South American power at Antonio Vespucio Liberti Stadium in the city of Ipira on Wednesday; kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (Pacific). He returns to the Rose City on Thursday.
The midfielder spoke to broadcaster John Strong about the opportunity to re-join the Haiti National Team and the chance to play against the Argentinean squad during a pre-game interview over the weekend.

Marcelin, 23, has been a member of the Haiti National Team since 2007, and has competed in a variety of international competitions, including two CONCACAF Gold Cups and a 2010 World Cup qualifying match. The St. Marc, Haiti, native has also represented his country at the U-23 and other youth levels.
He is the first Timbers player to get the call for national team duty since current head coach
Gavin Wilkinson
was named to New Zealand’s roster during his playing career for the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003.
The Timbers do not play their next league match until Thursday, May 13, when they play host to Crystal Palace Baltimore at PGE Park.
