Match Preview:

The Portland Timbers hit the road for just the second time in 2010 as they visit Crystal Palace Baltimore. Tonight’s match is Portland’s fourth and final league match this month and caps a stretch of four games in 10 days in May.
Earlier this week, the Timbers were dealt a 1-0 loss at PGE Park by the Montreal Impact. It was the Timbers’ second loss in three games and marked the second time this month the team has been shut out. Portland enters tonight’s match still looking for its first win in May (0-2-1).
The Timbers (3-2-2, 11pts) are still tied for second place with the Rochester Rhinos in the USL Conference of the USSF Division-2 Pro League. The Austin Aztex hold the top spot in the conference with 14 points after a 3-3 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday.
Portland and Baltimore square off for the second time this season. In their first meeting earlier this month, Crystal Palace Baltimore received a first-half goal by forward Yaikel Perez and then fought off 16 shots by the Timbers in the second half to record a 1-0 win in Portland. The loss was the Timbers’ first in league play and ended a four-game unbeaten streak.
The Timbers play just their second road match of the 2010 campaign tonight. They played the Impact to a 1-1 draw in their first away contest of the season nearly a month ago on April 25. In 2009, the Timbers posted a league best 6-1-8 record on the road during the regular season.
For tonight’s match, the Timbers are without the services of defenders Ian Joy (foot) and Mamadou Danso (hamstring), midfielder Johan Claesson (groin) and forward Doug DeMartin (ankle) due to injury.
The Timbers return home for an international friendly against 23-time Argentine champion Boca Juniors on Saturday, May 29, at PGE Park at 7 p.m. Boca Juniors also has 18 international titles to its credit – a record-high shared only with Italy’s AC Milan.
