Timbers introduce video "clues" to MLS logo

PORTLAND, Ore. With the days counting down until the launch of the team's new crest as anticipation builds for its inaugural Major League Soccer season, the Portland Timbers today released the first in a series of four short-video segments outlining features of the new logo and the considerations that went into its creation.

The first segment, "Timberlution: A History," is now available for viewing on the team's websites, www.portlandtimbers.com, its official Facebook fan page, www.facebook.com/portlandtimbers, and on YouTube, www.youtube.com/TimbersFC.

A synopsis of the first vignette: "In 2011, the Timbers will leave minor league soccer behind and the team will be elevated to MLS and the first division of the sport in North America. To that end, simply keeping the same logo we have had does not do justice to a change of this significance. However, we fully recognize that our history is far from a typical minor league history, just as our fans are far from typical fans."

The Timbers, who mark their debut MLS season in 2011, will unveil the team's new crest at halftime of the United States-England match during a free World Cup viewing event at Director Park in downtown Portland on Saturday, June 12. The new logo symbolizes the Timbers ascent to Major League Soccer in 2011, proudly signifying Portland's deserved place in top-flight soccer. Merchandise featuring the new logo will be available for purchase at Director Park immediately after the unveiling of the team's new crest.

The June 12 viewing party begins at 11 a.m., with the United States-England match set for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff. Director Park is located at the corner of SW Taylor and Park Avenue in downtown Portland.

Additional video segments will be released online in the days leading up to the official launch.
