Timbers introduce full slate of MLS team marks

PORTLAND
, Ore.
— The Portland Timbers today introduced their complete identity system that will complement the team’s new Major League Soccer (MLS) primary crest as anticipation builds for the club’s inaugural MLS season in 2011.

Included in the identity system is the team’s primary crest, a secondary crest, a stand-alone axe application, a supporters-inspired-and-composed ligature design and a “Portland Timbers” wordmark. The supplemental marks will be used in various applications during the team’s ascent to MLS. Click here to view the complete line of Timbers MLS marks.

“The MLS stable of marks holds true to our root elements while evolving to communicate our historic elevation to MLS,” said
Merritt Paulson
, president of the Timbers. “We welcomed fan input in the process and feel the final result appropriately honors our traditions and represents the magnitude of the organization’s step to the highest level of soccer in North America.”

Elements of the identity system included both direct fan design and input. The ligature was selected from several submissions from talented local designers who are members of the team’s supporters group – the Timbers Army. The secondary crest is a direct take-down of the primary crest, which has been altered slightly to reduce shading in the axe.

The Timbers will unveil their MLS uniforms and full merchandise product line later this year.

Timbers MLS season tickets start as low as $99; fans can place a $50 deposit towards 2011 season tickets by calling the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555. Additionally, a virtual venue feature at
