Timbers U-23s' Braun named to Team of the Week

United Soccer Leagues announced on Wednesday that Portland Timbers U-23s midfielder
Freddie Braun
was selected to the Premier Development League Team of the Week, while goalkeeper
Jake Gleeson
was named an honorable mention.

Braun, 22, recorded one goal and one assist to lead the Timbers U-23s to a 4-1 win over the Victoria Highlanders on July 17 as part of a two-game road trip to conclude the regular season.
Gleeson, 20, earned honorable mention for his shut-out performance in a 1-0 road win over the Kitsap Pumas on July 18 in the Timbers U-23s’ regular-season finale.
With a pair of victories last weekend, Braun and Gleeson helped the Timbers U-23s finish the 2010 PDL regular season with a 16-0-0 record and become the first team in the league since 1998 to post a perfect record – a record without a loss or draw.
Braun played in 16 games for the Timbers U-23s in 2010, and ranked among league leaders with eight assists on the campaign. Gleeson ranks among PDL leaders in several goalkeeping categories, including wins (14), shutouts (8), fewest goals allowed (5) and goals-against average (0.36).
Braun is the fifth Timbers U-23s player this season to receive PDL Team of the Week honors, joining Gleeson, midfielder
Bim Ogunyemi
, defender
Ryan Kawulok
and forward
Brent
Richards
. Gleeson is the second Portland player to receive honorable mention honors; midfielder
Roberto Farfan
received honorable mention accolades for the PDL Team of the Week on June 30.
