Timbers U-23s play host to PDL Championship Aug. 6-7

PORTLAND, Ore.
– United Soccer Leagues announced Sunday that the Portland Timbers U-23s will play host to the 2010 Premier Development League Championship on Aug. 6-7, at PGE Park. The Timbers U-23s will be joined in the PDL Final Four by the Thunder Bay Chill, Baton Rouge Capitals and Reading United AC.




Semifinal matches will be held Friday, Aug. 6, in a doubleheader at PGE Park. The Timbers U-23s enter the PDL championship tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 4 seed Reading United in the second game of the doubleheader. Thunder Bay, the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 3 seed Baton Rouge in the opening game of the tournament; kickoff times for both matches will be announced at a later time. Seeds were determined based on regular season final standings.




The 2010 PDL Championship match will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at PGE Park live on Fox Soccer Channel. The consolation match will be held Saturday at 1 p.m.




Ticket information for the PDL Final Four will be announced on Monday.




The Timbers U-23s defeated the Kitsap Pumas 2-1 on Sunday night to claim the league’s Western Conference championship. The Timbers U-23s posted a perfect 16-0-0 record during the regular season, becoming the first team in the PDL to achieve the feat since 1998. Portland heads into the championship weekend trying to become the first team in the PDL’s 15-year history to finish as undefeated champions.
