Timbers host Minnesota as part of two-game week

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers play host to the NSC Minnesota Stars on Wednesday at PGE Park at 7 p.m. as part of a two-game week for the club. On Saturday, the Timbers travel to face AC St. Louis at 5:10 p.m. (Pacific).




On Wednesday, the Timbers also play host to their annual Bark-in-the-Park night at PGE Park and invite fans to bring their dogs to the park to watch the team take on the Stars. Tickets start at $12 in advance and are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.




Less than 2,000 tickets remain for Wednesday’s match.




Both of Portland’s matches this week will be broadcast live on Sportsradio 95.5 The Game, with a live video webcast online at
www.portlandtimbers.com/live
. Wednesday’s home contest against NSC Minnesota will also be televised live on FSN.




After an extended road stretch, the Timbers (7-7-6, 28pts) return home for their first regular-season home match at PGE Park since July 10. Portland ended its recent string of four road games with a 1-0 loss to the Rochester Rhinos on Aug. 4. The Timbers are in a two-way tie for third place in the USSF Division-2 Pro League’s USL Conference with the Stars at 28pts.




The Stars (7-9-6, 28pts) visit PGE Park for the second and final time during the 2010 regular season on Wednesday. The two sides split the first two games of the regular-season series, with the Timbers earning a 2-0 win over the Stars on June 19 in Minnesota; midfielder
Ryan
Pore
scored one of his league-leading 11 goals to aid in the victory. The Stars dealt Portland a 1-0 loss on June 17 at PGE Park. The Timbers make one last regular-season visit to Blaine, Minn., to play the Stars on Aug. 21.




The Timbers then travel to St. Louis for the second time in 10 days as they take on AC St. Louis (5-10-6, 21pts) at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park Saturday. Mike Ambersley recorded the first hat trick in franchise history to help AC St. Louis end a five-game unbeaten streak for the Timbers with a 3-0 win July 28 in St. Louis. Since a 3-0 win over AC St. Louis at PGE Park on May 15, the Timbers are 0-1-1 in their last two matches against the 2010 expansion side.




ABOUT NSC MINNESOTA STARS

The NSC Minnesota Stars play their second and final road game during the month of August on Wednesday as they visit the Timbers. The Stars played AC St. Louis to a draw on the road in their previous match Aug. 1. Forward Brian Cvilikas scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2 in the 90th minute, leading the Stars to their fourth consecutive draw. NSC Minnesota wraps up the month of August with two home games, including one against the Timbers on Aug. 21.




ABOUT AC ST. LOUIS

Including its win over the Timbers in late July, AC St. Louis is on a four-game unbeaten streak entering Saturday’s contest. AC St. Louis is in the middle of a five-game homestand and has recorded a pair of draws in its last two matches. On Aug. 6, AC St. Louis played the NASL Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps to a scoreless draw; it was the club’s third shutout in four games. Saturday’s match is the fourth and final match between AC St. Louis and Portland during the regular season.
