Danso rehabbing and continuing training

Futty Danso, Timbers @ Sounders, 5.14.11

PORTLAND, Ore. — Mamadou “Futty” Danso scrimmaged with the team on Tuesday at the Portland Timbers’ training session, but the club remains uncertain whether the 6-foot-3 center back will be able to rejoin the side for this weekend’s trip to FC Dallas.

Danso, one of the Timbers’ All-Star candidates, injured his left shoulder against the Colorado Rapids on June 11. He was expected to be out two to four weeks and is listed in Tuesday’s injury report as “out.” Danso wore a brace around his torso with straps that limited the range of motion of his left arm.

“I feel great,” he said after training on Tuesday. “I’ve been running, working out, doing rehab. We’ll see how it goes.”

Danso will undergo more rehabilitation on Wednesday and expects to be re-evaluated on Thursday. He hopes to make the trip to Dallas and is anticipating his return to the lineup — whether it comes this week or next.

“I feel like I’m getting there,” Danso said. “God forbid anything [aggravates the injury] on Thursday.”

Danso’s replacement against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, David Horst, suffered a first-half hip flexor injury and left the game. He was not at Tuesday’s training and is also listed as “out.”

Veteran Kevin Goldthwaite came on for Horst and made an immediate impact, scoring his first goal in a Timbers uniform and fourth in 90 MLS matches. Portland and New York drew 3-3.
