Jewsbury Named to MLS All-Star Gameday Roster

PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer (MLS) announced today that Portland Timbers midfielder Jack Jewsbury has been named to the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star gameday roster by New York Red Bulls and MLS All-Star manager Hans Backe.


Jewsbury, 30, is among the 22 MLS All-Stars confirmed on the roster that will compete against English Premier League titleholders Manchester United at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, July 27. The game will be televised live by ESPN2, Galavision and TSN at 5:30 p.m. (PT).

The Joplin, Mo., native was selected for the first time in his career through the MLS All-Star First XI fan vote, the results of which were announced July 10.

In his first year with Portland, the captain leads the club with five goals, six assists and 16 points. Jewsbury also has three game-winning assists, tied for second in the league. The five goals and 16 points are career highs for the nine-year veteran. His penalty kick goal was the deciding factor in the Timbers’ first road victory of the season at Chicago over the weekend.

Jewsbury was acquired by Portland in a trade from Sporting Kansas City on March 1.
