CenturyLink Man of the Match @ Montreal Impact: Troy Perkins

Troy Perkins, MOTM @ Impact, 4.28.12

The Portland Timbers 2-0 loss to the Montreal Impact last Saturday was a frustrating one to be sure. On the road, shut out, and a controversial handball call all are part of the takeaway from the match.

Prior to going two goals down, however, Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins was playing a solid and gritty game. He made a nice save in the 22nd minute off a blast by Impact midfieler Felipe (see below) and was helping keep Portland in the match. He ended up having to leave the match in the 63rd minute when he raced out to deny the Impact's Sanna Nyassi a goal scoring opportunity. Nyassi came sprinting in, took the shot, Perkins slid in to stop the ball, and took a boot to the face for his heroic efforts. It was the kind of fearless play that is often needed of a top-quality goalkeeper.

While the incident ended up forcing Perkins to leave the match, the brave effort did not go unnoticed by Timbers fans. With 88% of the vote, Troy Perkins is your CenturyLink Man of the Match.
