After a long road back following offseason hip surgery, Portland Timbers central defender David Horst made his 2012 MLS debut yesterday in the team’s 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy.
Having slowly worked himself back into game shape over the course of Reserve League games, the friendly against Spain’s Valencia CF, and as a sub in first team games, Horst played the full 90 minutes Sunday afternoon at The Home Depot Center. Paired in the middle of the Timbers’ backline with Hanyer Mosquera, Horst was everywhere.
Whether it was tracking back on the speedy Landon Donovan, putting forth a perfectly timed tackle, or bringing the ball back into play on the counter, Horst’s presence was felt throughout the match. And with 57% of the vote, fans agreed.
