The Portland Timbers 1-0 loss Wednesday to Chivas USA was a grinding affair. After going up in the first half behind a Miller Bolanos goal, the Goats seemed content to lock their defense up in front of their All-Star goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
For the Timbers, midfielder Eric Alexander continued to push. Whether it was daring runs down the right flank to play the ball into fellow midfielder Darlington Nagbe—who’s header narrowly missed—or taking a slicing tack to the center to take a shot himself, Alexander was committed to trying to find an equalizer.
