PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Timbers today announced that defenders Futty Danso (The Gambia-above left), Steve Purdy (El Salvador-above right) and Rodney Wallace (Costa Rica-above middle) have been called up by their respective national teams for various upcoming international competitions.

Danso, 28, has been recalled by The Gambian National Team for a 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria on Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Banjul, The Gambia. He is scheduled to join the Scorpions on Saturday and train under new head coach Peter Bonu Johnson prior to the match against Algeria. Danso has four caps for The Gambia, earning all four during call-ups in 2011.

Purdy, 27, has been recalled by the El Salvador National Team for a friendly against Estonia on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. Purdy, who has family ties to El Salvador, was called up four times in 2011, making his debut for La Selecta on June 19, 2011, against Panama in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal. He was a key contributor to El Salvador’s advancement in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying last fall, as the country has advanced to the third round of CONCACAF qualifying.

Wallace, 23, has been recalled by the Costa Rica National Team for a friendly against the Wales National Team on Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Cardiff, Wales. In his first call-ups with Costa Rica last year, Wallace earned four caps and scored goals in friendlies against the United States and Venezuela.

All three players are scheduled to return to Portland on Thursday, March 1.
