Thorns FC Highlights: New Portland NWSL players have sparkling skills

Alex Morgan, USWNT vs. Ireland, 11.28.12

Alex Morgan. Christine Sinclair. Tobin Heath. Rachel Buehler.

These are some of the best-known women's soccer players on the planet.

And they're coming to Portland. Here's a closer look at what they can do on the field.

Alex Morgan was here at JELD-WEN Field in November for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland where she quickly went out and scored a first half hat-trick (See above). Those goals were part of a downright gaudy 2012 campaign where she scored 28 goals in 31 international games. And if that wasn't enough, she also threw in 21 assists. Here's one where new Thorns FC teammate Tobin Heath played a nice through ball to score against Japan in an Olympic warm-up:

Morgan was able to repay the favor to Heath with an assist in October against Germany as part of their post-Olympic celebration tour. Heath had a total of four goals and seven assists during the 2012 international campaign:

Christine Sinclair put up some ridiculous numbers in 2012 as well. She played in 22 matches--all starts--and talled 23 goals. In this 1-0 win over China in a  friendly back in May of 2012, it was pretty much all Sinclair. Just listen to the commentary:

Sinclair also had a memorable Olympic semifinal against the U.S. with a hat-trick in the 4-3 loss. Here's her second goal:

As a defender, Rachel Buehler doesn't tend to score that many goals. But in the 2011 Women's World Cup, she struck for a timely goal against North Korea. The clip is not embeddable but you can fast forward to the 3:06 mark to see it.

(Note: Pre-allocation research on this precluded inclusion of Karina LeBlanc, Marlene Sandoval and Luz Saucedo but we're working on getting some clips on them too.)
