PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Timbers U-23s defender Eric Miller has been called up by the U.S. U-20 National Team to participate in an upcoming training camp in Portland from April 9-16. It is his third call-up by the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2012.

Miller, 19, is one of 24 players called up by U.S. U-20 National Team head coach Tab Ramos for the week-long camp, which will include a match against the University of Portland on Thursday, April 12. Miller participated in camps with the U.S. U-20 National Team in January and February, and is one of only six players to have been called up for each of the team’s first three camps of the year.

A native of Woodbury, Minn., Miller is set for his first season with the Timbers U-23s in 2012. Portland opens the Premier Development League season on Friday, May 11 when it plays host to the Fraser Valley Mariners at JELD-WEN Field; kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Miller had an impressive freshman season for Creighton University in 2011. He helped anchor the Bluejays’ backline that allowed just five goals during the season and was named to both the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team as well as an all-freshman team by College Soccer News. Miller was a key part of Creighton’s run to the NCAA College Cup semifinals last season.
