It's been an exciting start to the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, as several teams have seen surprises in one way or another. Friday, France put a drubbing on Switzerland, 5-2, as they looked dominant throughout. Meanwhile, fans around the world have been half-joking about Mexico's 0-0 "win" against Brazil on Tuesday.
Spain and England have done all they can to end their current iterations, with both failing to score a single point in a combined four games. Their ouster has been highlighted by shining performances by Costa Rica and Mexico--despite a loss and a draw respectively--as the strongest contenders for darlings of the group stage. Of course, that could all change on Sunday should the U.S. grab three points against favorite Portugal. Let's take a look at some links to check out before we kick off the weekend.

Alex Morgan supports her boys
Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan showed her patriotic side for the U.S. match against Ghana on June 16, dressing up with fellow USWNT players Syndey Leroux and Kelley O'Hara. Morgan got a chance to talk about her decision and the U.S. win with ESPNW.com's Julie Foudy, which you can watch here.

England's loss hit home hard, likely sigaling an end to an era for the island boys. One fan took it particularly hard, as did his stuffed companion.
France with the convincing win
In a poor effort by Switzerland, France went up 5-0 before an attempt was even made at a comeback late in the match. The Swiss dominated posesssion but Les Bleus had twice as many shots on goal. Honduras is the only team left in Group E without a win though not yet technically eliminated. Also: basketball jokes.

Being part of a national soccer team takes practice. Dedication. Ultimate timing and rhythm on what is one of the world's largest sporting stages. I'm starting to think Columbia is still a favorite after losing both Radamel Falcao and Carlos Bacca. I mean, look at them.
