What would you do for a special cause? The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and money for the fight against ALS has washed over social media over the past few weeks. Portland Thorns FC on Wednesday accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge by Long Island-based youth club Albertson Soccer Club.

Here's a little background. Thorns FC head coach Paul Riley took on the Ice Bucket Challenge and then in turn challenged one of his youth clubs, Albertson. The folks at Albertson then returned the favor by nominating Thorns FC to step up and take the challenge head on. And did they.

Entering the semifinal of the NWSL Playoffs this weekend, Thorns FC appropriately challenged the three other NWSL playoff teams - FC Kansas City, Seattle Reign FC and Washington Spirit - to the Ice Bucket Challenge and to have the icy water poured over their heads - all for a good cause, of course.
