Portland Timbers Liam Ridgewell profiled in The Times of London | The Backcut

Liam Ridgewell, Timbers vs. SJ, 9.7.14

“I wanted to be part of something and there could be 22 squirrels running around at our stadium and the fans would still support them; they sing and cheer no matter what. What I couldn’t do was pass this up, be at home and then think, ‘I wish I’d gone there. I wish I’d just tried.’ - Liam Ridgewell

Portland Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell came to Portland in early July as a new center back and Designated Player for the club. A veteran of 11 English Premier League seasons, Ridgwell brought a wealth of experience from one of the top leagues in the world.

A mainstay on the backline, a 2014 MLS All-Star, and creator of the popular "Ridgy Roll" goal scoring celebration, Ridgewell was recently featured in an ace profile by soccer journalist George Caulkin in The Times of London.

Ridgewell talks about his decision to come to The Rose City, adjusting to life in Portland, his impression of the Timbers' incredible fans, and his newfound joy in cruising around in his boat in his spare time. It's a fantastic read.
