Thorns FC midfielder Tobin Heath is in camp with the U.S. Women’s National Team and we checked in with her earlier this week to hear about the USWNT's preparations, who on the national team is the most likely to become president, and her excitement at becoming an aunt.

It’s been almost four years since the last Women’s World Cup, and you’ve gained a great deal of experience playing at the international and club level since then, how has your game evolved during that time?
Tobin Heath:  "The last World Cup left me heartbroken. Winning a World Cup is every footballer’s dream and every day I’m looking to improve my game so that I can help the national team win this next World Cup. My college coach, Anson Dorrance, always said to try to live on a 'never ending ascension.' I have always tried to do that with my career, constantly challenging myself to get better. These last four years have given me more tools tactically, technically, physically and mentally to become a more mature player. I’m never fully satisfied when I come off the field. I always want to play more and I’m always looking to improve in every possible way."

What has the first week of training camp with the U.S. Women’s National team been like in preparing for the upcoming tournament? What is the mood of the team in camp?
TH:  "This first week in training camp has been intense. All the practice sessions are intentionally created to prepare us to qualify for the World Cup. The environment is competitive and demanding in quality. Every player is focused individually, but also collectively contributing their strengths to the teams style of play. The mood in camp is very positive and motivated. This group has something special that you can feel both on and off the field. It’s a good vibe."

Obviously you have been busy with the national team, but what has been the highlight of your offseason so far?
TH:  "The highlight of my offseason has been the arrival of my sister’s first baby. I’m officially Aunty Tobin. I love everything about the experience and I cannot wait until I can see him again!"

The U.S. Women’s National Team seems like a fun group, who is most likely to…
Become President?

TW: "Abby Wambach."

Star in a TV sitcom?
TH: "Sydney Leroux."

Be a star athlete in another sport:
TH: "Everyone."

Where do you call home in the offseason? What do you like about it the most?
TH:  "I'm a nomad. I usually travel with the sun. But I love spending time with those I love."
