Portland Timbers conclude preseason slate in the 2015 Simple Invitational Saturday against Norwegian side Stabæk at Providence Park

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers wrap up their preseason campaign, closing out the 2015 Simple Invitational with a match against Norwegian Tippeligaen side Stabæk on Saturday at 5pm PT at Providence Park. The Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps FC kick off the first match at 2:30pm PT.


The Timbers (1-1-3 in preseason) played
the Chicago Fire to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night
as 18 different players saw action for head coach Caleb Porter’s side in the match. Porter deployed a lineup that featured 10 different players from Sunday’s 2015 Simple Invitational-opening match against Cascadia-rival Whitecaps FC. Entering Saturday’s final preseason match, Portland has conceded just three goals through five preseason matches.

Saturday’s preseason match is Portland’s final tune-up before the Timbers kick off their fifth MLS season on Saturday, March 7, against Western Conference foe Real Salt Lake at 7:30pm PT at Providence Park. Since 2011, the Timbers are unbeaten (2-0-2) in home openers as an MLS club. Since the 2013 season, the Timbers have earned a 16-4-14 record at Providence Park, including 15 shutouts.
