Portland Timbers U-23s face Kitsap Pumas Friday at Providence Park

PORTLAND, Ore. – Following a 3-2 win against Washington Crossfire in their first road match of the 2015 PDL season on May 19, the Portland Timbers U-23s return home to face the Kitsap Pumas in the second Providence Health & Fitness Day match at Providence Park on Friday, May 29; kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. (Pacific).


The Timbers U-23s (2-0-0, 6pts) have faced Kitsap Pumas (2-0-0, 6 pts) 16 times since joining the PDL in 2009, logging a 7-4-5 overall record against the Northwest Division foe. Portland has registered 22 goals and six shutouts against Kitsap, including a 2-1 win on June 28, 2014, in the final meeting of the 2014 season. Friday’s match will be the first of two regular-season games between the two clubs.


Portland extended its season-opening winning streak to two straight games with a 3-2 victory against Washington Crossfire in their first road game of the 2015 PDL season on May 19. The Timbers U-23s received three first-half goals as forward Ben White tallied what would stand as the game-winning goal in first-half stoppage time. The goal marked White’s second in as many matches. James Moberg (14th minute) and Dennis Castillo (35th minute) also netted goals in the first half for the Timbers U-23s against Washington.


Kitsap enters Friday’s match undefeated in the first two matches of the season with wins over Calgary Foothills FC (May 23) and Lane United FC (May 17). In their last match, Kitsap received a second-half hat trick from substitute forward Michael Chamberlain to give the Pumas the 3-1 comeback victory over Calgary. Chamberlain was named the PDL Player of the Week for his performance against Calgary and leads Kitsap with three goals in two matches.


Following Friday’s match, the Timbers U-23s travel to face Calgary Foothills FC on Tuesday, June 2, at Hellard Field in Calgary; kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (Pacific).


Defender Dennis Castillo named to PDL Team of the Week, two more earn honorable mention
Timbers U-23s defender Dennis Castillo was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 4 of the 2015 season after registering a goal in Portland’s 3-2 win against Washington Crossfire on May 23.  A standout for the Timbers U-23s last year, Castillo has logged one goal and one assist in two matches for the Timbers U-23s this season. Additionally, midfielders James Moberg and Todd Wharton garnered PDL Team of the Week honorable mention nods.
