Stand Together Week 2015 Social Recap | June 14, 2015

Paul Riley, Stand Together Week, 6.14.15

The 2015 edition of Stand Together Week came to a close Sunday with numerous projects happening all over Portland.

Thorns FC players Kendall Johnson and Hanna Terry kicked things off at Harper's Playground in Arbor Lodge Park in North Portland. Teaming up with volunteers from the University of Portland and across the community, the group weeded areas, planted new flowers and helped spruce up this special playground. It was a particularly special project for Johnson--a Portland native--who helped construct the park as a volunteer while she was still a student and star player for the University of Portland. It being a playground, volunteers of all ages also got a chance to help test out all the great slides, swings, and more.

Also in North Portland, McCall Zerboni helped a crew at The ReBuilding Center with de-nailing donated reusable wood and working in the organization's massive warehouse.

Across town, the Thorns FC coaching staff helped with the dog runs and facilities at the Oregon Humane Society. Head coach Paul Riley, assistant coach Skip Thorp and goalkeeping coach Scott Vallow worked alongside a great group of volunteers and also managed to pet a few dogs and cats to boot.

And, of course, Stand Together Week veteran Timber Joey made appearances at all three events lending a helping hand. He even broke out the chainsaw at the Oregon Humane Society to help clear some dead trees.

Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who helped all week and also to the wonderful Presenting Sponsors: adidas, Alaska Airlines, Coca-Cola, Cricket Wireless, Daimler Trucks North America, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, KPTV FOX 12, Providence Health & Services, Simple, and University of Portland!
