USL Match Preview | Portland Timbers 2 vs. Arizona United | July 2, 2015


PORTLAND, Ore. – T2 remain in the Rose City to take on Arizona United SC at Merlo Field in Portland, Ore., on Thursday, July 2; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).



In their last match, despite finishing with a 17-13 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal, T2 conceded a goal in each half in a 2-0 loss against Cascadia-rival Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Monday at Merlo Field. 


T2 (5-8-2, 17pts) are ninth overall in the Western Conference and have played nine of their 15 USL matches on the road so far this season. T2 have found success at Merlo Field on the campus of the University of Portland, posting a winning record (3-2-0) in only five matches this year. Portland has registered eight goals in five games at Merlo Field in its inaugural season. 


Forward Kharlton Belmar leads Portland with seven goals through 15 matches and ranks tied for fifth in goals among all USL players. Goalkeeper Jake Gleeson ranks tied for second overall in saves with 49 in 13 appearances.


Arizona United SC (6-6-1, 16pts) are seventh overall in the Western Conference and have scored 16 goals through 13 matches. Leading up to the match in Portland, Arizona defeated Real Monarchs SLC 2-1 at Scottsdale Stadium on Saturday.


In their first meeting of the year, T2 defeated Arizona United SC 2-0 at Scottsdale Stadium on April 25 with a first-half brace from Kharlton Belmar.


United SC recorded three consecutive road wins to start the season, scoring five goals away from home. Arizona has not scored nor won a road game since April 11 (3-3-0) when they shut out the Austin Aztex 1-0 at House Park.


Forward Long Tan leads Arizona with seven goals through 13 matches and ranks tied for fifth in goals among all USL players. Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski ranks second in saves overall (51) and third in saves per game (4.25).
