Thorns FC goalkeeper Michelle Betos named finalist for 2015 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year

After a stellar 2015 campaign, Thorns FC goalkeeper Michelle Betos was named today as a finalist for the 2015 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year. Also, Thorns FC midfielder Allie Long is a finalist for the Best XI

Betos went 5-7-2 in 14 starts in 2015 with two shutouts as well as scoring a goal herself off a header against FC Kansas City on June 19. 

The 2015 NWSL Awards will be voted upon in two rounds with fans joining the voting process this season.



In the Preliminary Round, owners, general managers, coaches, players and the media will vote on the individual awards from Sept. 3 to Sept. 6 to determine the top finalists. The fans will then join the voting for the Final Round from Sept. 7 to Sept. 11 to determine the individual award winners and Best XI.




Voting Breakdown: 


Preliminary Round: Owners/GMs/Coaches (25%), Media (25%) and Players (50%)


Final Round: Fans (20%), Owners/GMs/Coaches (20%), Media (20%) and Players (40%)




Fans are encouraged to support their Betos via Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #NWSLGOY and they can vote for all the Thorns for Best XI consideration using hashtag #NWSLBestXI.




All 2015 NWSL Award winners will be announced in the days leading up to the NWSL Championship game on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. PT on FOX Sports 1 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.
