Timbers on Campus: Week of Nov. 30, 2015

Foster Langsdorf, Stanford, 9.9.15

The chase for the 2015 college men’s soccer NCAA Championship title continues as the first three rounds of the tournament have been completed with the remaining teams begin quarterfinal play of the tournament over the Dec. 4-5 weekend.

No. 4-seed Akron, No. 8-seed Stanford and No. 12-seed Creighton are three of the Elite Eight teams that remain in the hunt after the first three rounds of play.

Seven Timbers Academy alumni feature on the three remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament including Akron's Anthony Macchione, Jesse Garcia-Aguilar and Niko De Vera, Stanford's Foster Langsdorf and Sam Werner, as well as Creigton's Peter Prescott and Stefan Wutte.

Last week in the third round of NCAA Tournament play, defender Edson Martinez and Georgetown were eliminated from postseason play, falling 5-4 on penalty kicks to Boston College after a 1-1 draw at full time and two 15-minute periods of overtime on Nov. 29.

No. 12-seed Creighton upset No. 5-seed North Carolina with a 1-0 win over the Tar Heels to advance on Nov. 28 while No. 4-seed Akron and No. 8-seed Stanford--who started Academy alum Foster Langsdorf--defeated SMU and No. 9-seed Ohio State to move on to the quarterfinals.

In the upcoming week, Akron will square off against Creighton while Stanford will face No. 1-seed Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Dec. 5.

Throughout the season, we will keep fans updated on Timbers Academy alumni who are competing at the collegiate level.
